Curly Hair Care - No Shampoo

I've gone back and forth on taking care of my naturally curly hair. From using products, to not using products, shampoo to no 'poo, using my homemade soap for shampooing (followed by apple cider vinegar rinse) and on and on. My hair has been untouched by relaxers for over five years now and nothing seems to work forever. Hence the back and forth. Right now I'm on a no-poo regime again. Just felt like time. I found a great forum: Nappturality, with tons of curly hair tips and guides.

I do follow some of the guidelines in the Curly Girl book for no-shampoo washing:

This is scary, I'm sorry, but it is: TopMomma? Oy-yoy-yoy.

I feel like an old-arsed lady when I say this, but boy-oh-boy the blog game has become saturated, has it not? There are people that have been around longer than me who know what I'm talkin' 'bout. I started back in '99 I think it was -- so almost a decade here. Read journals and such, surfed sites. But could identify a great deal of the journalers out there.

Not anymore.

Holy cannoli, there's a lot of them. And shooooot, when people caught wind that you could make some possible dough blogging? A lot more came along (yeah, yeah I got the Google ads up there on mine -- pays for the site, at least). It is nice to be able to find gazillions of people out there doing there thang, blogging, journaling and what have you. But, I gotta admit, sometimes I long for the good ol' days where google ads (or any ads) on blogs were non-existent and people blogged our journaled just for the sake of doing so.

Fourth of July

Happy 4th of July, Americans. Woo-hoo, yay, firecrackers and all that good noise.

I have spent most of my day lounging around the house, checking email, feeding kids, showering, doing laundry. Thankfully I had the day off from work, always nice (well usually, sometimes when the kids are insane, I'd like the refuge of my quiet office).

Tonight we're going to go see the fireworks. Fun. Might bring a bottle of vino and some munchies. A blanket. Maybe a radio. Sparklers, maybe. We're pretty darn broke right now and it is really hard. I don't know what it is about making more money and not having more. Seems like we should be ahead. I don't want to think about it. There's a carnival at the park where the fireworks are going to be so I KNOW the kids are going to be all whiny about rides. But we're saving up for a different carnival and there will be no rides tonight. Which will bring on whining, surely. Because we've done something wrong in our child-rearing and raised some really whiny kids.

Not that I don't love them, but man. They are a whiny lot. Trying to combat that a bit. Anyone else have whiners?

Spending Less in July 2007

I have some debts to pay off. Have to admit it. I've been doing OK on getting rid of it, slowly. Very, very slowly. I've got an electric bill that I've been carrying a little over each month on and it has gotten me into owing $700. There I said it. But I have paid of my Sam's Card, which is good, my Sears card, etc.

So this month I'm going to try to spend less. Much less. And trying to record my spending. Don't really like the thought of it, honestly, but feel like I need to put it all out there to get a real grip on where my money is going.

Paris does Prison

From TMZ:

Paris Hilton was just ordered back to jail in Lynwood to serve out the remainder of her sentence! She'll get credit for at least 5 days already served.

Hilton left the courtroom in tears, screaming, "Mom, Mom, Mom." Hilton was also heard saying "It's not right."

One witness said that Paris was "physically escorted" out of the courtroom by a female deputy.

Seriously it is all so grouse. The whole situation is entirely grouse. And sad. I about puked when I heard she was on house arrest. If you're going to put a chick like that on house arrest, put her in the ghetto without a cell phone, her dog and her parents. For real. As ridiculous as the whole thing is, I can't help but feel some pity for the girl. She just doesn't even know, yo.

Although, seriously, probably the best thing, instead of jail, would be to hit them in the pocketbook. Have her pay a heafty fine, donated to some charity. What's jail going to do?

What is it about comedians? Chirs Farley comes to mind as I ponder Richard Jeni's suicide. People who are incredibly talented and delightful entertainment to many, but very complicated individuals on the inside.
Rape is Hilarious

If you're not up for swearing, this link probably isn't for you. It is a great post: Rape is Hilarious. Follow the link here for more food for thought.

But being overcome in the bodice-ripping, shoulder-grabbing, shaken-and-tossed sexual encounter of films (and soap operas and romance novels, where female characters more often marry their rapists than report them) is yet regarded as the most coveted ovation a man can bestow on a woman, the purest expression of his raw desire and an irrefutable commentary on her irresistible desirability. Only driving a man to almost-rape you is definitive proof of your allure as a woman. (So we’re told.)

I can't say anything that would sum it up better than she did, so I won't try.

ReviewMe A Scam

I don't normally do the whole "pay for blogging" thing, but thought ReviewMe looked pretty safe and was worth a try. My first review I received payment for promptly, but not the second one. I've been waiting for over a month for payment and my attempted contacts has, so far, not yielded any response. Nothing. Nada.

I'm worried.

I wrote them again, asking for payment. And now am googling to see if I can find anyone else in a similar situation. I'd love to update this soon saying the money is in my account. We will see. But for now I'm very leery.

Updated: May 16, three days later. They contacted me back and they paid me. Whew.

Paris Hilton is Going to Jail

My public need me, says Paris Hilton

Jail-bound socialite Paris Hilton urged fans today to sign a petition to pardon her "mistake" because she provides beauty and excitement to "(most of) our otherwise mundane lives". [link]

If that's not scary, I don't know what is. Sadly, there's probably some truth to that, for some people. I'll admit to watching reality TV and Paris-y shows on television. I do it mostly when I want my brain to relax. Kind of weird, I know. But it is junk food for the brain with no calories.

Of coarse you can see all kinds of "Paris Hilton Goes to Jail" videos on YouTube. Paris' life is the fantasy of many young women, being filthy rich and thin and famous. Doesn't get better than that, right?

I know a lot of people blame government for the ills of society, but look around. There's a LOT more factoring into what society is becoming plastered on billboards, magazines and television. People in power that young boys and girls idoloize and want to emulate, serving as nothing but to be rich, powerful and reckless. People watch them because they are a train wreck, but then somehow get sucked into the wreck themselves. When people in other countries think of America, do they think of Paris Hilton?
