Groovy Mom On MSNBC Site | Main | Newsflash June 4, 2003Breastfeeding Someone Else's BabyDaycare owner charged with breast-feeding someone else's baby. Ew. You know, a friend of mine has a cousin who's mother babysat her infant. (Make sense? Gramma's babysitting grandchild - got it? Okay.) Anyhoo, the mom has, on occasion, let the grandchild suck on her breast to soothe her, while the mommy is away. I thought that was odd. But, this daycare lady doing that? What the hell? How could she think that was just fine to do? And, honestly, I'm not even talking about germs and such. I'm talking about ick factor. The whole thing kind of creeps me out. Yes, I know people used to do this. I'm aware. Swiped from Aimee.

It's not an issue of ick for me, it's just wrong. It was common back in the day to use slave women to nurse other's babies and I'm sure it was (is?) done in other countries where the mother is unable and formula isn't as widely available as it is here, but damn. I don't care how natural it is (I nursed my child), it's just wrong to stick your boob in a baby's mouth without the consent of the parent. If it's not legally child abuse, it's definitely not appropriate.

That's just wrong. I can't imagine even thinking about offering my boob to another child. Sure dogs can feed orphaned kittens and I even recently saw pigs feeding breastmilk to baby tigers, but with real people?! OMG, I'm disgusted. Someone b*tch slap that woman for me.

That story REALLY bothered me. What if the woman was hiv positive and had infected the baby??? What was she thinking!?

Beyond everything else, I think doing this without consent is a big issue. Beyond germs, there's medications that can pass through milk, too. Or, the baby might be allergic to something the mom ate (passed through milk)... blabbity bla bla.
It makes me wonder how close these 2 women were, though, that she would go ahead and do something like that and think that it was OK.

OH man, this pissed me off. The idea that someone would do that gives me the chills. I see it as child abuse as well. I also see it as possible child endangerment because who knows what that person had in her system when she did that? Like mentioned, medicine could've harmed the child, possible HIV, or even allergic reactions from what the day care woman had eaten.
Besides the whole consent thing, to me it is just completely wrong. Period. My child gets my boob, and that's it.

O.o..I read this and shuddered..REPEATEDLY. It's disgusting. Gross. Unthinkable. Are we sure this isn't fake? PLEASE say that it's fake.

To be quite honest? If someone I was close to asked me first, and I was comfortable with that particular person, it wouldn't be a big deal at all to me.
I wouldn't be happy about some random person just doing it, though, but only because of the possibility of her accidently passing something harmful.

so you are saying for some reason you get in a crash and you have two women there breastfeeding and one mom was killed the other mom shouldn't breastfeed that other moms baby to keep it alive.
