Napoleon Dynamite Rocks

napoleon dynamite I absolutely loved the movie Napoleon Dynamite. My kids and I always go, "Flippin' awesome" now, or "Gimme your tots!!" It is refreshing to have a campy, funny film that I can watch with my kids and not have it be laden with sex, swearing and all that.

The kids love comedies, as do I, but so many of them are just trash with a little humor thrown in. This was a nice change.

Can you believe this is the dude that plays Napoleon?

Kirstie Alley and Jenny Craig

Does anyone else just about die when they see these commercials for Jenny Craig? I feel like I'm watching a train wreck, and Kirstie Alley is the engine, her head, sticking out the front. We all know what the caboose is.

She's got her own diary set up to talk about her weight loss journey. However, I'm guessing if it were not on the JC site, and were on her bedstand instead, it would tell a much darker, sadder story. Personally, I think the chick looks great. She's pretty thin or chunky. As much as I snicker at the commercials, I mostly feel sorry for her. I wish her happiness. And sanity.

Pain

What happens when Hydrocodone goes past the expiration date? I shouldn't ask. I'm sure I'll get some weird searches on that one.

But man, my back/hip/knee pain is out of control. My mom is bringing over one of those blow up matresses, 'cause it seems to be better for my hip. I've been popping Advil (well, generic ones) like crazy. I think it helps, though, so I'll continue that for the duration that was reccomended.

Bummer, though. No shoveling for me, and I love to shovel.

Jen and Brad Split

So Brad and Jen split. First it was Jen and Ben, now Brad and Jen.

While waiting in the checkout lane I picked up a magazine and skimmed the article. Kids. He wanted them, she wants a career right now. I guess. Or that's part of it. Boy oh boy. You'd think with money, beauty, fame, popularity, etc - you'd be happy. Appearing to have it all, just an illusion.

Make Your Own Kid's Detangling Spray

loreal kids conditioner I've got five kids and they've all got temperamental hair. One's got a 'fro, one's got straight thick hair, another curly lion's mane... so I'm always needing to wet their hair down before I comb it. When my daughter was young (she's got the nappiest hair of them all), I would stock spray detangler like it was a main food source for our family. Needless to say, that gets expensive!!

So I started mixing my own. Got a squirt bottle and did a 5:1 (5 part water, 1 part conditioner). Works fabulous. I've used other conditioners, but through trial and error, I figured out that the L'Oreal Kid's Conditioner works best, and it smells good.

Now watch them come out with a "concentrated detangling solution" that you mix with water. Don't act like you didn't see it here first!! And they best be sending me a case of conditioner, since I'm talking them up like that. And they best not discontinue this conditioner or I'm going to be shaving my kid's heads.

Comfy Cat

Fred always finds the weirdest spot to sleep. The other day, Carlito comes to me going, "Mom, come're, come on!!" Frantically whispering and waving me over to the bedroom where, inside the closet I find this:

comfy cat

Happy as can be. Sometimes he's in a drawer, sometimes flat up against a wall, or way under the covers by my feet. He is one of the strangest cats we have had yet.

Life of Pi

by Yann Martel

Pi and his family live in India; his father is a zookeeper. They decide to move to Canada and on the way, the ship sinks. Pi is alone, aboard a lifeboat, with a hyena, orangutan, zebra and tiger, shipwrecked for 200 some days.

The "twist" of the story doesn't come until the end where the reader is left to decide, I guess, what the true rendition of his story was.

I read this because I was told, more than once, if I liked The Secret Life of Bees, I would like this one. I've yet to figure out the parallels. It was good, interesting and the question at the end makes it a memorable book... but it was slow at times. I don't know if I would put it on my Must Read list, but it was an interesting book to experience.

Read again? Maybe, but doubtful.

Yates Conviction Overturned

Andrea Yates Murder Conviction Is Overturned. Remember the mother that drowned her five children? The conviction was overturned because of false testimony. The article doesn't say what that means, though, and I don't know enough of legal stuff to know - will she get out of prison then?

Log Cabin Sugar Free Syrup Without Splenda

log cabin sugar free syrup

I am mourning the death of something very dear to me. Don't even try laughing. It isn't funny. You see, for years I have been using Log Cabin Sugar Free Syrup. It was, in my opinion, the best sugar free syrup out there. It was also made with Splenda, which made it taste better. But the other day I was shopping and gasped out loud like a freak when I realized that it was "New and Improved" and the label had changed. No more Splenda.

I am guessing it has to do with the Splenda Shortage.

Did I say I use this a lot? Not just me, but a couple of my kids with sugar issues? One of them doesn't even know that I'm slipping him sugar free - that's how good this stuff was.

I am so very sad. On the positive side, when I went back to the store, I noticed in back of the new bottles, some old ones and I snatched up 5 of them.

I couldn't find a website for Aurora Foods, but if you are interested, you can contact them at: Log Cabin Consumer Affairs, 11432 Lackland Road, St. Louis, MO 63146.

Snow? Maybe? Please?

Forecast:

Total snowfall for the storm should average 4-8 inches, with slightly less amounts in some ...

Yes!! Snow. Come our way and make everything white. We need you here in Wisconsin, I mean, it is Wisconsin - we are supposed to get snow every now and then. Did I mention I love shoveling? Is that terribly sick and twisted? I'm not saying that I carry my shovel from door to door, begging to clear everyone's path, but I look forward to shoveling in front of our house (and occasionally the neighbor's, too - the nice ones).

Besides, the kids have snowpants they need to use.

Expression Engine or Wordpress

Oh how I would like to switch over to ExpressionEngine. Something other than MT. There just is not easy fix to this comment spamming problem, besides TypeKey (and it seems not many people want to sign up for that), or having comments hosted, or deleting oodles of spam comments.

Bummer. And I have all the templates in MT so that would need to be migrated over. Sigh.

Can anyone compare EE and Wordpress? Pros or cons?
