Pretzels and Salad

One of my sons came home today with the story of the busy hen that made the bread, but nobody would help her... know what I'm taking about? Yeah, well anyway, this one was a print out of the story, only they made pretzels instead of bread, with a note at the bottom saying it had been modified with the idea in mind that kids would make pretzels.

Not those pretzels are any easier than bread, in my opinion...

At any rate, so then I got it in my head that we'd make some pretzels. Grabbed a random cookbook, Better Homes and Gardens: Muffins & Breads and made their recipe. Much better than the last time I made pretzels (that recipe called for butter galore). This one was with the boiling of the pretzels and everything.

They were yummy. Dipped in mustard, along side a nice salad.

Deadwood Rides Again

My cable provider has done did me wrong and messed up my cable for an entire month. So I am happy to have it back in working order (after, literally, a 1/2 dozen calls over the past few weeks).

Even happier am I that they have nearly (or is it ALL?) the full season of Deadwood available on the On Demand. I started watching it almost a year ago, and then they took it off the menu. Somehow I got strangely addicted to this show...

So I'm picking up mid-season again, and the new season looks to start next week. Woot!!

Diet Coke With Splenda

Coca-Cola Announces Plans To Launch Diet Coke Sweetened With Splenda. Very interesting. I'm a Diet Coke Lovah (especially from the gun at McD's) and am wondering how this one will taste. I also like Splenda a lot more than NutraSweet, so this could be interesting.

Napoleon Dynamite Dies

So my kid comes in and tells me that the actor that plays Napoleon Dynamite died. Her friend confirms this, and I am crushed. For a couple seconds before I google it up and confirm that it is a bunch of hooey. Thank goodness.

"Were you gonna cry?" My daughter asked.

Yeah. Maybe I was. I love me some ND.

Running Off Energy

The boys reallyreally have the need to run off energy. It is a little harder in winter with the snow. Or more complicated. They have to get all their crap on, and then get it all off when they come in. And it is never a smooth process. There's a lot of "NO - not there!! You're getting it all weeeet..." and "In through the garage, IN THROUGH THE GARAGE!!!" They tend to drop and toss everything, leaving puddles of water around the house.

But, it is very much worth it to throw them out in the snow, instead of having small-sided soccer matches going on in my kitchen. Yes, yes it is. They broke my fruit bowl this week. The one I got from Pier 1 way back when. It was expensive, but marked down to ghetto price (affordable to me). There was a crack patched in it, but I didn't care because it added to the charm of the dish.

Oh chip of the soccer ball and it is broke. Sometimes they kick it like they are on an open field, dangit. I usually allow the games to continue until:

someone starts crying
I hear the dishes rattle in the drainer
I hear the ball hit the stove and the burners rattle

Whining, though, too. If they can't decide on rules or yellow cards, or whatever the heck they're doing, and they come to me more than a couple times, I tell them they're done. If they like it enough they'll solve it themselves without bloody lips, screaming and tears. Otherwise, ball is mine.

Stand Up Speak Up

standupspeakup.jpg Does anyone have privy to the STAND UP SPEAK UP bracelets? I can't find them here in the US. My son wants some of them. I have no idea where to find them though. I guess Canada has them as well? Hopefully they will come to the US at some point. Anyway I'll swap ya soap for bracelets... Hit me up baby.

Better yet, Monsieur Thierry Henri, if you would like to just, you know, come by for dinner and hand deliver them... we'd be OK with that. You've got a room with us anytime.

Don't Bother

Ugh. I seriously have no idea what happened to my comments. I try to submit them and it gives me some whack error message I don't even know what to do with. I'm really tired of dinking with this comment thing on this blog. I have other installations of MT that are fine, but this one has been giving me trouble from the get go.

However. If I install something else, that would be even more work. So. Yeah. It is what it is, man.

Last Minute Valentines

Last minute FamilyFun: easy but cheezy Valentine ideas. We'll be making ours up tomorrow. I don't know how creative we will get, though, considering money is very tight, and with 5 kids, we're looking at a lot of Valentines.

I like to skip the whole "Be Mine" lovey stuff and just stick to handing out nice little cards or whatever.

Fox Soccer Channel

I'm totally stoked about the new Fox Soccer Channel. We love watching the games and are totally digging the coverage.

I hope it never gets as commercialized as American football, though. Goodness, there were way too many commercials on that game last night. Just ridiculous. That is one nice thing about the European football - you get to watch the entire half straight through with NO commercials. Love it.
