Tampon Cozy

Was cruising around the craftster blog and found the neatest thing: tampon cozies!! I've never seen them before. I don't use tampons (they irritate me - I know you want to know that), but if I did, I'd want me a tampon cozy. Preferably in pink.

. . .

On a side note, gosh you people are quiet. Could ya post a "hello" so I don't feel like I'm talking to a wall? Did I scare ya away with my bowel talk?

Why oh Why - Too Hot

Oh my gosh, it is just too hot out. 'Been like this for days. Yesterday was like stepping outside into a sauna - a very humid sauna. I tried not to be outside for more than 5 minutes at a time for fear of melting.

Not to mention, being cooped up in a house with four boys is a test in patience. They fight, they scream, they make lots of messes and eat constantly.

Last night we made shakes and pizza and watched Fat Albert. I heard such good things about it. I rate it as... OK. Just OK. It could be worse, littered with all kinds of sexual innuendo and crap, so as a family film it rates really low on the "objectionable" meter. I can't even think of a blip it might have made.

. . .

And now we're watching the Jesus video. I don't know if we recieved this for free or what, but Sal (one of the twins) is literally obsessed with it. Obsessed with Jesus, really. You know how some kids get obsessed with Shrek, or Batman, well, he's got Jesus. I think he's watched the video every day this past week.

Early Riser

Being that it is summer vacation, I haven't had much time to just spend by myself. Those "alone times" are usually spent doing housework, catching up on things, reading, soaping or whatever. With the kids home I don't have much time to do any of that. Or I can try and clean, but they keep up with my cleaning by creating more mess.

So I thought I'd wake up a little early this morning, ahead of the kids, and get in some ME time. Like when they were in school and I'd get them all off to school, sit down, read my mail, have some coffee. I truly was a less irritable person with a little ME time.

But, of coarse, the thunder woke up one of the kids who came racing out within seconds of me wandering into the quiet, empty livingroom. After a bit I made some breakfast for us two and wouldn't ya know it, the second I sit down to eat, here comes the twins. Yammering and asking question after question (one of the twins is a morning person who wakes up charged).

So much for my early morning rising. I'm not a morning person to begin with, and if my getting up early just wakes the kids up earlier when I'm not ready to be awake... kind of defeats the point. Guess my ME time needs to be spent sleeping? Ha.

Beer as a Laxative

Beer is a laxative. I swear it is.

(If you can't stomach butt/body talk, don't read on...)

The other night we went out with friends for food and drink. I was thrilled to get out for a while, but felt horrible. Constipated. Don't know what caused it, but I really did not feel well.

But I figured we could stop off at a micro-brew and I could, er, have some laxatives. Beer seems to do that to me. And, if that didn't work, I'd make a trip to Walgreen's.

At any rate, we went out to have some tapas. They have complimentary wine sampling there. Talk about fun. Only about 25% of the wines I sampled I would have actually liked a glass of, but that was the joy of it - you try it, and if you don't like it, eh.

So we did that, had the tapas (nice experience but nothing I'd likely seek out again, too pricey for what you got) and then headed to the Great Dane Pub. Oh. Yum. We got one of those samplers for fun, and then some pints. I also ordered a Bloody Mary because I was craving it. Nachos, Buffalo Wings... ohhlala. I'll take bar food and hefty beers over fancy shmancy any day.

And as far as beer being a laxative? Problem solved by morning. I wonder if I can get a refund on that, or a co-pay from the insurance? Heh.

Busy Evening

Tonight was spent soaping. Well, doing a little cleaning, then soaping. After packing up a few orders, I was getting low on a couple of my soaps. So I made some Wake Up Call and some Pink Sugar, and then a batch for my own personal use (and for the family of coarse). I'll post pictures tomorrow after I cut them.

It took me hours to make the soaps, though, because everyone was home and I need to be extra extra careful. I also measured out oils to use for other batches - just makes things go faster.

After soaping I cleaned up and since my hands were slippery, while I was rinsing my water glass it broke. So sad, too. It was a mulit-colored polka dot one that I bought years ago, put away to store, and just brought out a couple days ago.

Sigh. So finally I'm having some Muscado wine and... what are these things, Chester's Puffcorn. Not bad. Salty and airy. Frank brought out some mozzerella balls (yum) and Greek olives, too. Quite the interesting feast. Nice ending to a busy evening, though.

Quiet House

So quiet around our house right now. Everyone is gone except me, Frankie and the cat.

My daughter is on her way to camp with my husband and one of the twins. She loves going to camp, but I get homesick for her. She really has a blast, though. I think this is her third year going. But still.

Wow. Just realized how old she's getting. A freshmen. Four more years and she's an "adult" - oh my gosh!! Yuck. I can't even think about it. OY. Jease. Oh my, four years? That's it. OK I have to not think about it or I'll start sobbing.

So anyway, back to the quiet house thing I have going on here. The two oldest boys are at friend's houses, one for the night and one just playing over. All I can hear is the hum of the dryer and Frankie, eating a popcicle next tome. I'm not accustomed to this much quiet.

So I'm thinking it is going to take them about 2 hours to get there, 2 hours back and a good 45 min. or so unpacking crap... a movie sounds kind of fun. It is hot, and I don't really want to be outside too much in the heat (wuss, I know). But no movies look good. Nope, none. Ah well. We'll find something to do. I have to take advantage of the quiet time I have going on here.

Just Wondering

Why do those signs say, "No backing into stalls" - what does that mean? Why can't you back into stalls?

Just wondering...

The Chosen

by Chaim Potok

Relationships, Judaism, human emotions... A story of two Jewish boys and their fathers and the paths that both of their lives are taking. One, Danny, is chosen to be a tzaddik like his father. I won't go into it much more than that because I don't want to spoil it if you haven't read it.

This is the second book I've read by Potok, who I really like as an author. The complex story is so simply written, yet the characters are very alive and memorable. I foudn this a very interesting, thought-provoking book and plan to read the sequel, The Promise.

I would definitely reccomend this book. It is well-written, timeless story.
