Tyra Banks Speaks Out About Her Weight

"I get so much mail from young girls who say, 'I look up to you, you're not as skinny as everyone else, I think you're beautiful,' " she says. "So when they say that my body is 'ugly' and 'disgusting,' what does that make those girls feel like?" - [link]

OK. So I'll admit. I'm not a big fan of Tyra. Never have been. With her recent show I've become even... less of a fan, if that is possible.

In fact, it appears that by adding a little padding, Banks the businesswoman has earned a bit of credibility: Her talk show is now entering its second season, and the most recent season of Top Model delivered its strongest ratings ever. "(TV execs) think it's better when I'm at 155 lbs. – at 145, they feel I'm not as relatable," she explains.

Well. Thanks for "relating" to us all. I'm not quite sure what to think of it. The cynic in me says it is what a lot of the coverage on celebs is: hype. People do crazy things just to gain attention, pimp their movies or... possibly up the ratings of their talk show.

i am in love with tyra banks, she is the best role model ever. i feel like im her biggest fan..i always watch her show, and ANTM. she gives real good advice. i've always wanted to become a model, but i feel that i'm not skinny enough for people to like me. i love tyra bcuz she's not anorexic or beliemic. and yet she has a great body. she's in her thirtys but she still looks really young. i live in canada, so when i go on her website to send her an e-mail, i can't because its only for americans. i feel that i could never meet her. but if i could, it would be the best day of my life. when i hear people talk bad about her i get mad because she is better then anybody else they admire. i think youre a great role model, and i wish i could be just like you.
