Batman 5? | Main | Toe Sucking Man Sentanced To Life July 7, 2003Driving While BreastfeedingA Michigan mother has been arrested for driving while she was breastfeeding. She was cited for not having her kid in a restraint, and driving without a license. Whoa. How dumb do they come? It's great that she's breastfeeding, but come on. Babies can wait. Don't take them out of the carseat to feed them. If you can't stand listening to them scream and cry, pull over and feed them. Gosh, what a dumb move.

i read about this a while ago! if i remember correct the baby was 7 moths old. both the mother and the father appered on T.V. saying that what she did was perfectly fine. the father was defending the mother. geeze.. if i was that stupid to put my child and others in danger my husband would of probally ring my neck! the couple were saying that they are filing a LAW SUITE because she was in a differant state than her home state and her home state laws were differant as far as seat belts and restraints. what a stupid, stupid woman! they were doing an interview saying it was her right to breastfeed YEA! try pulling over so you don't kill your baby or someone else. to top it off she was driving on a highway going at least 60 mi. per hr. a trucker saw what she was doing and called the police. i bet she gets alot of dirty looks in the town where she is from. if i was the law there, i would be knocking on her front door to investagate the home. if she is that stupid you wonder what else maybe going on at home. i'm sorry i'm going off but i got so mad about this and i guess i'm not over it quite yet!

I posted about this in my blog. I live in Ohio so it was a big story here. All I can say is, "Shame on them both. Her for doing it, him for condoning it."

Goodness. I have fed my baby in the car but I did it by leaning over the side of the car seat. I would never remove her from the car seat just to feed her.

Man, I can't believe it. It's one thing if she were sitting in the passenger seat (not that I think anyone should do that, either) but DRIVING!!!! What the heck state is she from that the laws are different? I hope she gets investigated. This reminds me of my friends who live in Texas, a woman in their (very small) town lost a child in a car accident because she refused to restrain her. The little girl was about 18 months old and now they have another little girl and STILL don't restrain this other child. What morons!!! Ugh, I hate seeing people who don't put their kids in car seats. Sorry for the rant.

Jeez. It's irresponsible to do it while driving. It's also wrong to lean over and put your boob in baby's mouth - even if baby is right next to you. Both are very dangerous. If you want to gamble with your and your baby's life, do it on your own time, not on a highway where you might kill me and my kid.
Why is it people who do not restrain their children are the first people to cry uncontrollably when those same children go flying out of the front windshield? Don't people realize what they are doing?
Sorry, say-say for going off a little but child restraining in a car is something I take very seriously.

I used to work at a bank in the drive up window, and was constantly calling police on mothers ( or caretakers) who were driving around town with babies sitting beside them in the car ( no carseat in vehicle).. Its horrible what dangers people will expose their children to for the sake of saving 2 min. God help them and thier children...

I live pretty close to where this happened. In Ohio, the rest stops average about every 20-30 miles on the turnpike. In that area, it is well lit at night and generally safe, and I'm assuming that if the trucker saw her doing it, it was daytime. Anyway, I'm happy to say she was passing through and doesn't live here!

I too live in Ohio. And work in Portage County where this incident occured. And after hearing the verdict in this case tonight, I plan on finding out if the judge in this case is an elected official. She was found guilty of all but the Child Endangering. Can someone please explain to me how having your 7 month old child out of their car seat, squeezed between an adult and a steering wheel, feeding them - always a choking hazard for young children, made more so due to the position, going 60 miles an hour on a highway, talking on a cel phone, and writing notes regarding a civil case all at the same time, is not putting that child at risk???????????????????? As to the excuse that it wasn't against the law in her home state, any of you who are from Michigan, need to worry. Because not only does this law put children at risk, it puts anyone driving around a woman doing this at risk, her reaction time will be hampered, as well as her manuerverability, and her attention has to be diverted. The religious defense that they are using just boggles the mind. I grasp the concept of her need to defend her religious beliefs and rights, but who is defending this child. The only applause I can give in this case is to the Truck driver who called the police.
Thank you for letting me get this off my chest, yelling at the TV wasn't working.
