Which TV Mom Are You? | Main | Chunk To Hunk August 10, 2003Oprah's CandleExcuse me while I choke on my gum. Oprah's "List" of stuff she loves includes some Jasmine candles to the tune of $345 dollars. Now that is some crazy, crazy stuff, honey. Three hundred dollars for some candles?!? Oprah. Girlfriend. I can give you about 50 some Jasmine scented candles for that price, girl. Or one for 6 bucks. Sweetheart, you are getting ripped the hell off. (Or you just enjoy paying for over-priced goods because it makes you feel powerful and cool.) There's a lot of things I could do with a couple hundred dollars. Like... buy my kids school supplies, for example. Nobody should be spending that much money on a freaking candle. What a messed up world we live in, for crying out loud.

Oprah could probably support a small country on the bank she's bringing in. If all the celebrities in America chipped in, we could probably cure some diseases and feed a bunch of hungry people. Sigh...

The thing is, Oprah makes so much money that spending $345 on a candle is nothing to her. It's quite literally just like us spending $6 on one. She probably can not even grasp the idea that she's overspending by a mile because she doesn't live in our world where we compare prices and think $80 for a hotel room is getting up there. When your budget is so enormously huge, the perspective is also huge. Kinda makes you wonder what she spends on little things like toothpaste and toilet paper. LOL Right now, of course I think it's insane to spend that much on a candle, but, I honestly can't say that I wouldn't spend the same way if I were in her $1000 Prada shoes.

Oh yeah, I'm sure her perspective is totally different than ours. What's the saying, "The more you make, the more you spend?"

I watched this show "It's Good to Be...Oprah Winfrey" not too long ago. For x-mas she "generously" gives her friends designer luggage and stuff like that. Oprah, how about giving that money to a mother who can't afford to pay for medical treatment for her child. Or a homeless shelter. Or a kid who can't afford to attend college. The show went on to say that she donates a lot of money to charity anonymously. How about you give a little bit more than usual and give your friends a $100 sweater instead of $3,000 luggage?

ok-i have a big complaint about the oprah fav things shows. it makes everyone in the studio audience love her, but it's terrible as a viewer. talk about the envy. it's pure evil. i was so mad about it i almost wrote her a letter. after that episode i have since refused to look at oprah. i'd much rather watch zoom with my 11 month old.

Let's stop complain on Oprah's favorite things. She can spend as much money as she wants. She deserves it. She already help a lot (Oprah's Angel Network, Foundation, etc.) Let's no depend on Oprah to do everything. WE all CAN help. Instead of complaining, better collect all your small change, go outside, and give it to a homeless person.

You obviously never watch her show. She is one of the most compassionate people in the world. Did you know that she has adopted children in Africa and goes there regularly helping orphaned children. She is also building schools there. All she ever talks about is giving to others and "using your life"! She encourages others to do this themselves so that they will too have joy. She does live a big life and if she chooses to buy expensive things, why should we judge. She herself says, "to whom much is given, much is required". So she is well aware of the needs of others. I recommend you stop putting her down and actually tune into her show and find out what she is doing and consider what you can do to help someone.

I THINK ALL OF YOU JEALOUS PEOPLE NEED TO GO WORK AND MAKE SOME MONEY. IF OPRAH WANTS TO HELP THE POOR OR NOT ITS HER MONEY!!! SHE CAN DO WHAT EVER THE HELL SHE WANTS WITH IT. JUST BECAUSE SHE MAKES MILLIONS IT DOES NOT MEAN SHE IS OBLIGATED TO HELP YOU, YOUR FRIEND, OR THE PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY THAT HAVE A HARD TIME MAKING MONEY.ON THE OTHER HAND SHE DOES HELP A LOT OF PEOPLE!! IF OPRAH WANTS TO SPEND 20,000.00 ON A FREAKIN TOILET PAPER ROLL, LEAVE HER ALONE, LIKE I SAID ITS HER MONEY!!!! HELL SHE CAN WIPE HER BUTT AND BLOW HER NOSE WITH ALL HER MONEY. WHO CARES!! STOP BEING SO JEALOUS!!!SHE WORKED TO GET TO WHERE SHE IS AT NOW. IF IT BOTHERS YOU SO MUCH MAKE YOUR OWN SHOW LIKE HERS AND WILL SEE IF ANYONE CAN TOP HER RATINGS. CAN'T SOMEONE BE SUCCESSFUL TODAY?? IF YOUR SUCCESSFUL YOUR GREEDY AND DONT WANT TO HELP THE POOR, BUT IF YOU NOT SUCCESSFUL, YOUR LAZY. WHO UNDERSTANDS YOU PEOPLE. MY POINT IS STOP BEING SO JEALOUS OF WHAT YOU DONT HAVE, INSTEAD WORK AT GETTING THERE.

Most of you complainers bite. How can you judge the way you do? Who or what gives you the right? Shame on you. Do you even have a $500 car? Well to someone that can only afford a bicycle that may seem like frivolous spending. So sell your car and help that person out! What?!!! You won't? Hmmm now that's a shocker!!! You seem quick to tell other people to do the same. And what about that person with the bike? Well, the guy living on the street can't even afford a bike. So sell that darn bike and help the guy out. Come on people, look at yourself first. It doesn't matter how much you make. Everything is all relative to your own situation so don't judge others. If you spend one cent on 'want' items instead of 'need' items you are simply acting hypocritical. Bottom line, Oprah gives millions to charity. She started out poor. Good for her and be grateful for all the good she has done. If it wasn't for her there would be millions upon millions of dollars not going to charity. You are fools among people. Smarten up. And if you think that Oprah pays for most of her merchandise, you are delusional. Most of it is given to her so she will promote it on her show. Don't any of you know that celebrities pay for very little at the end of the day?

Well u know I think that Oprah is a fantastic person who has worked oh so hard to get where she is now. IF she wants she can get several expensive candels. I may only be 14 and u guys may think that i know nothing but this is just what i think. I mean she goes to africa almost every Christmas and gives to the children there. And she gives so much to all of those non-profit orgainizations with her Angel Network. 100% of it goes to those organizations. And well instead of sitting on your rear end I think that more people need to go out there in the world and do something to help others. I mean if most of us put our money in the bank and saved up instead of going to starbucks every day we would be a lot more well off. And I hope more people realize how much Oprah has gone through.

I agree that people that are sitting around complaining about Oprah have no life and should be ashamed of themselves. Stop worrying about yourself for just a minute and maybe you could relize Oprah does know what it's like to not have money. She has not been rich her entire life. And Oprah has done more for the world than most people. The people on her favorite things show are not just anybody, they are the type of people that help others or should be honored in some way and Oprah does that for them. So just because you are jealous that she is being nice to people and helping them, and that it's not you, would you be happy if no ever helped anyone because it didn't help you? Grow up! I am glad that I do not know any of you selfish people. Maybe someday you will have a fraction of the heart that Oprah has.
