Review- Catch The Moon
The first time I saw this book/CD set, I was browsing books at Barnes and Noble. It intrigued me because I read Lisa Loeb's (you know, the Reality Bites soundtrack) name on the cover. What was she doing writing children's books (didn't realize there was a CD with it)?
At any rate, I'm glad I had a chance to listen to this CD. Within seconds of popping it into my radio in the big, old van, I was taken back to the music of my own childhood. The instruments and vocals paired together, reminding me of the show The Magic Garden, and a record my mom would spin for me when I was young enough to be worry-free. (Don't ask, okay? I loved that show.)
This is more than just children's music, because it's sung by some people that can actually sing. You don't turn it on and cringe, or roll your eyes when your kids beg to listen to it (ringing any bells here?). It draws you in to the world of music with melodies that are familiar and voices that are pleasing to your ears. Basically, it's... a grown up music-lover's CD that you can painlessly share with the kids. Did I mention my kids love it? I can't tell you how many times I was commanded to listen to "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star..." over and over.
The CD starts out fast, with songs that make kids wanna wiggle. It then moves into slower songs, finishing off with ones that are smooth enough to put a kid to sleep.
Mind you, it's not just the CD; there's also the adorably whimsical and charming book that comes paired with the music. The book is short and sweet - perfect for a quick nap or bedtime wind-down. Read the book, pop in the CD and - goodnight!!
Bottom line: Good music, cute story. Perfect gift for a soon-to-be mom, or young child. If you hate kids-y sounding music for kids, give this one a try. It's sweet music to your ears that both you and your child will like.
Pssst!! This CD/Book set will be the next contest prize, and will be up by the end of the day.
