Removing Shells From Hard-boiled Eggs

Is there any tricks in boiling eggs that makes it easier to remove the shell later?

I've found that tapping the egg on the top nub, instead of on the side, and starting from there gives better results. But I'm still losing about 30 percent of my eggs due to sticky shells.

Any suggestions?

Hold it under cold running tap water while peeling the shell off.

Boil them and then after they are cooked how you like, immidiately put the eggs in iced water. From the boiling water to the iced water, let them sit for a second or two, then peel them. Works every time.

Don't start with fresh eggs. Keep them for a few days. Place in pot, cover with water. Bring them to a boil, let them boil gently for a minute or two. Shut off the heat and let them set for an hour or so. Drain the water, fill the pot with cold water. They're ready to peel!

Get that as seen on tv egg popper thingie, looks like the bird laying it all over again :0P

My grandmother's "recipe" for hard-boiled eggs always works! Place eggs in cold water in pan, bring to boil, cover, turn off heat, let sit for 20 minutes. Works every time!

Okay, so I've always done my eggs similar to the above (cold water pan, bring to boil...), the thing I haven't tried is the cold water bath and peeling soon thereafter.

You guys are fantatsic - thanks for all the suggestions!!

(Rebecca, I haven't seen that one - don't... know if I want to - ha.)

Whenever I have trouble peeling boiled eggs it's always because I didn't cook them long enough. Try leaving them boiling a little longer.

I would agree with Amy up there, that method always works!

I also tap both ends and roll the egg firmly between my palms. Like rolling dough into a ball, hard enough for the shell to crack even more. Slips right off.

My way is simular to Julie's....eggs in a pan, add cold water to cover by about an inch, bring to a boil, turn off the heat, cover and let set for 15-20 minutes and then immerse in ice water for about 30 seconds. They always peel easily.

my mum's secret: boil the eggs together with a pinch of rice. when the rice is cooked, the eggs are well done. you wouldn't have anyproblem when peeling the shells off.

has an eggstractor and it works good :) hehehe
