Poetry Speaks to Children

As a lover of poetry myself, I was eager to introduce this gem to my children, especially the twins (who are 7). This sturdy, book is large enough to allow a proper presentation of the beautiful illustrations, but still sized for small hands to independently open the book on their lap and enjoy it themselves.

Almost a hundred different poems, some classic, some new. Funny, thoughtful, endearing and seamlessly blended with the vivid pictures. Can you tell I enjoy the book? Ha. I particularly liked how it was presented, as do the kids. I thought the CD was a nice accompaniment but they twins did not seem to care for it. Over an hour of poetry read by a smattering of different artist, it was quite a treat. Still, the liked to read the poems on their own or have me read them. The quality of the narrations on the CD could stand alone, though. Great for bringing in the car, or listening to before bed.

Bottom Line: This is a beautifully presented book. I thoroughly enjoyed both poetry and pictures. You already get the fantastic book, so the CD is perk!! This is a nice way to put poetry at your child's fingertips.
