Lacy Peterson's Husband Arrested | Main | Homemade Cleansing Cloths April 19, 2003Easter Made CheaperI feel like, more and more, Holidays are overwhelmingly just another excuse to spend money. I was feeling this yesterday as I (reluctantly) picked out candy at Target. I made a decision not to do the whole basket thing, but instead focus on the egg hunt that we have been having for the past couple of years. It just seems to me that Easter is becoming a second Christmas. Spend, spend, spend!! And ignore why we're celebrating it in the first place. So, I think each year I'll shave a little more off of the giving-money-to-the-stores stuff and focus a little more on fmaily activities and things that matter to us faith-wise. Anyway, here's a link: On Having a Frugal Easter. There's some ideas in there, if you want to take a look. Of coarse, if you don't celebrate Easter, then you don't even need to worry about it. And if anyone has any additional tips, I'd be happy to hear them.

I agree, sometimes some people don't think about the true meaning of a holiday and instead focus on the "surface" things ~ buying candy, giving gifts, etc. This is a time of renewal in many ways (depending on your religion), and even though I am part of no particular religion, I definitely recognize the meaning of Easter. And I'm celebrating the arrival of spring and warmer weather, definitely! It's a beautiful world. Best wishes, and Happy Easter! :-)

We started small when the kids were little, and somehow managed to keep it that way. I think stayin gout of the stores helped. Thi syear my mom was the one who really wanted to "do" the "easter thing" so I gave her a limit of $20 so she could do up ONE basket for the whole family.
That was enough. :)
(we spilt to goodies, she made sure there was one of each thing for everyone)

I know exactly how you feel. I was raised Catholic in South America, and to us the Christmas and Easter holidays are not "shopping sprees" and another day off. We observe these holidays with much respect and I only hope I can pass this on to my kids in spite of the way they are bombarded with ideas of the "latest toy and sweetest candy".
